Dear Jack

Four Times A Year

I've been needing a change of pace. Life's been hard for the last 30 days. I've been sick, tired, banged up and kicked around in a bunch of unexpected ways. If you've had a bad hand dealt to you recently, you're not alone.

The other day I saw it was the first day of Autumn. That was enough to motivate me to put the past in the past.

Sometimes a mental shift is all we need to get out of a funk. Sure I might still be dealing with the repercussions of the last 30 days. Everything isn't perfect all of the sudden.

But the leaves are changing colour. The air is a little bit cooler. If nature can move on, so can I.

So can I.

If I keep looking to the world for inspiration, maybe I'll find it. Maybe it's a little bird in the backyard reminding me to break free of what's holding me down. Maybe it's a good cup of coffee reminding me to appreciate the small things. Maybe it's a story that reminds me my problems aren't so big after all.

Four times a year, the seasons change. Maybe the next time life beats me down, I won't have to wait so long to change my outlook.
